Glory to heroes of Blue Division


10th of February is the anniversary of the battle of Krasny Bor in 1943 in the Eastern front, in which took part the 250th Spanish Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht, known as Blue Division. During this battle almost 3.645 Spanish soldiers were killed and 300 were missing or taken prisoner (a 75% casualty rate). In the soviet side the losses were arround 10.000 soldiers. The Blue Division was awarded a Combat Service Medal, personally designed by Adolf Hitler, for its defense of Army Group North's precarious eastern flank. In conmemoration of this event, all 10th of February, ex-divisionaries, widows, relatives and fiends join together to remember this Spanish soliders died for fighting against communnism and for a bettter Europe, in the tomb and monument dedicated to the Blue Division in the Cemetery of Nuestra Señora de la Almudena.  As it is traditional, several floral offering were also made.
In the tomb and monument of the Legion Condor, that it is at a distance of 50 meters of Blue Division monument. Legion Condor was a German unit composed of volunteers from the Luftwaffe and from the Wehrmacht which helped the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War. ; In the tomb of the Fallen of the “Barracks of the Mountain” that died defending this position for the Nationalists in the first days of the Civil war; and in the tomb of General José Millán-Astray the founder of the Spanish Legion.
